Webster PR Closes, Then Reopens; Becomes Westby PR
The status of KIRT WEBSTER’s PR firm became more confusing this afternoon (11/1), hours after a message on the company home page first told visitors, “As of NOVEMBER 1st, 2017, WEBSTER PR is no longer in business.” By 2p (CT), the company had issued a follow-up statement saying it will remain open, under a different banner.
The full statement reads: “Earlier today, it was mistakenly posted on the WEBSTER PUBLIC RELATIONS website that the firm has been closed. This was stated incorrectly. WEBSTER PUBLIC RELATIONS will continue operating – but under the name WESTBY PUBLIC RELATIONS – while KIRT WEBSTER takes some time away from the business to focus on combating the egregious and untrue allegations made against him. The company’s work on behalf of its clients will continue under the leadership of JEREMY WESTBY, KIRT’s longstanding colleague.”
Today’s series of developments follow this morning’s (11/1) FOX NEWS report that WEBSTER PUBLIC RELATIONS had formally responded to allegations that WEBSTER PR founder KIRT WEBSTER acted inappropriately toward a former client. AUSTIN C. RICK, an aspiring artist, recently opened a GOFUNDME page to raise legal fees in advance of an expected civil case involving WEBSTER. On the page, RICK alleges that beginning in 2008, WEBSTER “did terrible, terrible things to me.” RICK went on to detail publicity opportunities arranged by WEBSTER “in exchange for sexual acts.” The story was also reported on TUESDAY (10/31) by NASHVILLE-based THE NASHVILLE SCENE.
The statement of response from WEBSTER PR, which was also sent to ALL ACCESS, says that all of KIRT WEBSTER’s relationships during the course of his professional life “have been consensual,” and, while acknowledging one with RICK, described it as “brief.” The statement continued: “It saddens Mr. WEBSTER that nine years later, after Mr. RICK’s music career has been stagnant, Mr. RICK has taken the opportunistic approach of mischaracterizing that relationship and posting untrue allegations.”
Concurrently, the original posting on the WEBSTER PR web page occured, announcing it had closed. WEBSTER’s client base includes DOLLY PARTON, KENNY ROGERS, CHARLIE DANIELS, and KID ROCK, among others.
